About Barbara

in april of 2008, i moved from the united states to mexico. during my working days, i held lots and lots of jobs....almost all chosen because they were fun or interesting instead of how much they paid. when i started thinking about retirement (in my 40s), i realized that i would never be able to retire to a country where english was the native language. and although i had traveled to every state in the US -- and lived in lots of them -- i had never been outside the country with the exception of canada and mexico. and since you now know that i could never afford to retire in canada (even to the french-speaking area), mexico won by default.

Animals in Mexico, part 2, Cattle

Cows in Mexico.  They’re everywhere!  And they’re so useful.  We love our beef and our cheese and our yogurt. While we down here do eat them and their byproducts, cattle are pretty much sacrosanct, as they are in the Hindu … Continue reading

Animals in Mexico, part 1, Horses

Mexico continues to amaze me with the number of animals one sees on a daily basis.  In the USA, you normally see large herds of animals in one place [i.e. on ranches] or you don’t see them too much at … Continue reading

Flowers

I noticed that after my last post, a couple of my old high school friends, Sandra and Linda [and at my age, I DO mean old!], had stumbled upon one of my Picasa albums showing photos of flowers at my … Continue reading

A Place to Live in Concepcion de Buenos Aires, Jalisco, Mexico

I’m having a great time going through my photos and looking back at my time here in Mexico since I arrived almost exactly four years ago.  So I’m going to continue this stroll down memory lane, but with more of … Continue reading

Until I can gather my wits about me to write, here are some of my favorite photos on things down Mexico way.  These were all taken during my first year here, 2008. Here’s a building currently being used by artisans … Continue reading

Sorry I’ve Been Gone!

Several days ago, my borrowed computer went a little “odd” and I was missing several letters and symbols so it was very difficult to type, even using synonyms! Suddenly, this Friday afternoon, it seems to have regenerated itself and is … Continue reading

A Few Hours in Joco for the Newbie

On Thursday, 29 March, my friends Dale and Brent came over to Joco from their home west of Ajijic to check out our weekly outdoor market (tianguis). They’ve been through Joco on their way elsewhere, but had never actually spent … Continue reading
